We talk a lot about ''watching what we eat,'' but if you never gave a thought to what you ate and instead watched only what you drank, you could probably cut 450 calories a day out of your life. (Yes, nearly a pound of fat loss a week!) That's what a study from the University of North Carolina found. Americans today drink about 192 gallons of liquid a year—or about 2 liters a day. To put it into perspective, this is nearly twice as many calories as we did 30 years ago.
When confronted with the growing tide of calories from sweetened beverages, the first response is, “Why not just drink diet soda?” Well, for a few reasons: Just because diet soda is low in calories doesn't mean it can't lead to weight gain. It may have only 5 or fewer calories per serving, but emerging research suggests that consuming sugary-tasting beverages--even if they're artificially sweetened--may lead to a high preference for sweetness overall. That means sweeter (and more caloric) cereal, bread, dessert--everything.
Guzzling these drinks all day long forces out the healthy beverages you need.
Diet soda is 100 percent nutrition-free, and again, it's just as important to actively drink the good stuff as it is to avoid that bad stuff. So one diet soda a day is fine, but if you're downing five or six cans, that means you're limiting your intake of healthful beverages, particularly water and tea. There remain some concerns over aspartame, the low-calorie chemical used to give diet sodas their flavor.
Aspartame is 180 times sweeter than sugar, and some animal research has linked consumption of high amounts of the sweetener to brain tumors and lymphoma in rodents. The FDA maintains that the sweetener is safe, but reported side effects include dizziness, headaches, diarrhea, memory loss, and mood changes. Bottom line: Diet soda does you no good, and it might just be doing you wrong. The best way to hydrate is by drinking low-calorie, high-nutrient fluids—and avoiding belt-busting beverages like the 20 Unhealthiest Drinks in America.

Weight loss tips
Each day as you get your habit changing affirmation you will also get some great factual information. Today we are finally going to get rid of the word DIET. They never work!! There are three reasons why diets never work.
First of all every time you or I go on a diet and starve the body, our metabolism slows down. (We want to speed it up!)
Secondly, every time we diet and lose weight 70% of it is fat and 30% of it is muscle. Now when we gain the weight back (almost all the time when we go off the diet), we gain 95% fat and only 5% muscle. Here is the problem with that. MUSCLE BURNS FAT. Less muscle means you burn less fat.
Thirdly, when you go on a diet you make a conscious commitment to make changes however your subconscious still has the old habits and behaviors programmed on"auto-pilot" and once it is fixed in the subconscious, you are attracted to everything in alignment with it.
This happens whether you like it or not. So rather then focusing on losing weight, focus on healthy lifestyle and the weight will come off and stay off! So today's habit changing affirmation is very simple but very important. Remember to read it 5x's out-loud and write it down.
Now repeat it once along with the previous affirmation:
1. Losing weight is a journey not a destination and I will enjoy the process.
2. I look forward to living a healthier lifestyle

Is A High Protein Diet for You?
The Goal Is Weight Loss
High-protein diets take a page from the low-carb craze. The goal is to lose weight by eating more protein-packed foods, which often means consuming fewer carbohydrates. The portion of total calories derived from protein is what defines a high-protein diet. In a typical diet 10%-15% of daily calories come from protein. In a high-protein diet, this number can be as high as 30%-50%.
Curbing Appetite Plays One Role
Besides curbing appetites, high-protein diets may also change a person’s metabolism. When carbohydrates are severely restricted, the body begins burning its own fat for fuel – a state called ketosis. Ketosis may shed weight, but it’s also associated with headaches, irritability, nausea, kidney trouble, and heart palpitations.
Starting a High-Protein Diet
High-protein diets come in many forms, and not all are created equal. The most nutritious high-protein plans are low in fat and moderate in carbohydrates, rather than high in fat and low in carbohydrates. The following slides present a variety of foods that fit the high-protein diet bill
Say Hello to High-Protein Steak
Nothing says protein like a nice juicy steak. And if you’re careful to choose a lean cut, you can get all of the protein with far less fat. In fact, a lean cut of beef has barely more saturated fat than a similar size of skinless chicken breast.
Think White Meat
Chicken and poultry pack plenty of punch in a high-protein diet, and if you enjoy the white meat you’ll be eating a lot less fat than if you choose dark. To slim your meal down even further, remove the skin, which is bursting with saturated fat.
Look for Pork Tenderloin
It may surprise you to learn that pork tenderloin is a white meat. What’s more, the cuts available today are 31% leaner than they were 20 years ago. If you’re interested in a high-protein diet, you may want to plan on pork.
Lots of Protein, Healthy Fats
Fish is a no-brainer -- it’s loaded with protein and almost always low in fat. Even the types that have more fat, such as salmon, are a good choice. That’s because the fat in fish is generally the heart-healthy kind known as omega-3 fatty acid -- and most diets don’t contain enough of this good-for-you fat.
Eggs: Affordable, Convenient, & Tasty
Eggs are perhaps the most classic and certainly least expensive form of protein. The American Heart Association says an egg a day is safe for healthy adults, so you may want to get cracking with eggs when you’re on a high-protein diet.
Soy: It’s High in Protein, Too
Soy products, such as tofu, soy burgers, and other soy-based foods, can offer a high-protein diet a nutritious plant-based source of protein. An added bonus: Consuming 25 grams of soy protein daily may also help lower cholesterol and protect against heart disease.
Beans: Packed With Fiber, Too
Beans pack a powerful one-two punch – they are loaded with protein and also full of fiber. Along with protein, fiber helps you feel full longer and also helps lower cholesterol. As for the protein content, a half-cup of beans is the equivalent of 3 ounces of broiled steak.
Low-Fat Milk Products
If you want to give your high-protein diet a tasty boost, don’t overlook dairy products as a protein source. Milk, cheese, and yogurt are not only protein-rich, they also provide calcium for strong bones and a healthy heart. Strive for 2-4 servings of low-fat or nonfat milk products daily.
Cereal and Energy Bars
Pressed for time? You can turn to high-protein cereal or energy bars to give your high-protein diet a fast boost. Just make sure the bars you choose have at least 6 grams of protein and not too much sugar or fat.
Go Whole Grains, Go Fiber
Most high-protein diets limit grains to a couple servings a day, so you want to make sure the grains you do eat are pulling their weight. That means staying clear of white breads and pastas, which have little to offer nutrient-wise, when compared with their whole-grain cousins. Whole-grain breads, cereals, and pastas, on the other hand, are rich in fiber, which might otherwise be in short supply for people on a high-protein diet.
Keep Fruits & Veggies on the Table
No matter the emphasis on protein, make sure you leave room for fruits and vegetables in a high-protein diet. These nutrient gold mines contain powerful antioxidants that aren't found in most other foods, and research suggests that people who eat plenty of fruits and veggies may lower their risk of cancer.
A Diet Aimed at Dieters
High-protein diets may help people lose weight -- at least in the short term -- because dieters tend to feel full longer when they eat more protein. This alone can cut down on snacking and lead to fairly rapid weight loss. Combine speedy weight loss with the satisfaction of feeling full, and it’s easy to understand why high-protein diets are popular. Unfortunately, many people gain back the weight once the diet ends.
More Protein, More Risks?
The medical community has raised many concerns about high-protein diets. These diets often boost protein intake at the expense of fruits and vegetables, so dieters miss out on disease-fighting nutrients -- which may raise their risk of cancer. Other potential health risks include high cholesterol, heart disease, osteoporosis, and kidney disease.
More Saturated Fat, Less Fiber
Many high-protein diets are high in saturated fat and low in fiber. This combination can increase cholesterol levels and raise the risk of heart disease and stroke. The American Heart Association does not recommend high-protein diets for weight loss.
Losing Calcium
People on high-protein diets excrete more calcium through their urine than do those not on a high-protein diet. If a person sticks to a high-protein diet long-term, the loss of calcium could raise their risk of developing osteoporosis.
Protein May Affect Kidney Function
People with kidney disease should consult a doctor before starting a high-protein diet. Research suggests people with impaired kidneys lose kidney function more rapidly if they eat excessive amounts of protein – especially animal protein.
High-Protein Diets: Still Questions
There are no long-term studies of high-protein diets, so their ultimate health impact is unknown. But the experts are sure of one thing: the formula for permanent weight loss is a healthy lifestyle. This includes eating nutritious, low-calorie foods and participating in regular physical activity. Note: Check with your health care provider before making major dietary changes.

5 things I learned from Jillian Michaels
by Margarita Bertsos, Margarita Shapes Up, Glamour, on Wed Oct 8, 2008 8:39am PDT
Read More from This Author »
I met Jillian Michaels yesterday; she's one of the trainers on The Biggest Loser--and my new favorite person.
Here's what she had to say.
1.) DON'T APOLOGIZE FOR SELF-PRESERVATION.I told Jillian that some of my habits--flushing rice down the toilet so I won't eat it, bringing my own high-fiber bread to brunch--stirred some controversy on the blog. "Why?" she asked. "Why should we apologize for the practices that help us manage the symptoms while we deal with the real reasons we eat? I pour candle wax on my food at restaurants," Jillian admitted. "Not wanting to 'waste food' is a poor excuse for ending up far worse off later on, dealing with all the health problems that come with obesity." (Here are a few restaurant do's and dont's to help you maintain your healthy eating goals while dining out.)
2.) RUN.I asked Jillian if running really is the best form of cardio for weight loss. "Absolutely," she said. "There are lots of great ways to get your heart rate up, but if you want to see the pounds melt off, running is the fastest way. But I get that not everyone is built for it--knee problems, tight IT bands, heel spurs; I get it." Whatever you do, she said, "Don't forget the weights! The more muscle you build, the faster your metabolism will run."(What's better running outdoors or on a treadmill?)
3.) THE BIGGEST LOSER IS NOT REALITY."You don't watch the Olympics and think, Hmm, I should swim for 6 hours a day like Michael Phelps, do you? But you might think about joining a pool and swimming a few times a week," she said. That's what Jillian wants people watching TBL to think, too: "If these people can lose ten pounds in two weeks, maybe I can lose ten pounds in a couple of months." She adds: "I want people to realize their own potential; I meet people all the time who never thought of themselves as athletic, but now? They truly are athletes."
4.) FORGET WILLPOWER."Losing weight is not about willpower--it's about moments of bravado, like the moment when you ask your waiter to take the bread away from the table right away."
5.) JUST SAY THANK YOU.When I told Jillian how much weight I've lost, she congratulated me. And then (as I always do), I added, "But I still have a long way to go." "Stop," she said. "What does that do," she said, "apart from negate everything you've already accomplished? You're being self-deprecating and disempowering, and that doesn't serve anyone-and especially not you. Be proud of what you've done for yourself."
Got it, Jillian. Thank you! :- )
What do you guys think--is weight loss about willpower? I happen to agree with Jillian and think it's NOT. It's not about gritting your teeth and finding the strength "deep within you"--I think that's B.S. and will leave many people feeling really bad that they can't find it. They key, I think, is to set up your environment and make decisions so that you can succeed even when willpower is nowhere to be found.by Margarita Bertsos

Worst Healthy drinks.
Staying hydrated can be great for your body. Drink enough of the right liquids and your mood will improve, your focus will sharpen, your heart will beat stronger, and you’ll be less likely to suffer from headaches and fatigue. All that, plus if you pick the right potions, you’ll receive beneficial nutrients, antioxidants and protein as a chaser.
Bottoms up, right? Not so fast. Some bottles are better than others, as you’re about to learn. Too many Americans are problem drinkers — and I’m not talking about bourbon for breakfast. As a nation, we love high-sugar, high-calorie drinks like sodas and smoothies; a whopping 21 percent of American’s calorie intake comes from drinks, and that’s an increase of 150 calories since 1977. The big-bottom line: Half of that caloric payload comes from sweetened beverages such as soft drinks, fruit punch, and other sweet drinks.
The sad part is: Nobody actually needs any of those calories. Water — by the glass and in the foods you eat — should be plenty to top your tank. But if you find it kind of bland, we hear you. That’s why we’re slapping warning labels on the big-calorie guzzlers, and pointing you toward the thirst-quenchers that won’t make you fat.
Iced Coffee Drink This Dunkin’ Donuts Caramel Crème Iced Latte (16 oz)260 calories9 g fat40 g sugars Not That Starbucks 2% Iced Dulce de Leche Latte (16 oz)420 calories16 g fat 52 g sugars In the hierarchy of espresso drinks, lattes sit squarely at the bottom. That's because they're more milk than java, and are susceptible to huge pumps of sugar syrup from eager-to-please baristas. A macchiato gives the same caffeine kick for a tiny fraction of the caloric cost by swapping out the excess steamed milk for a crown of frothed milk. It's a simple but meaningful switch for caffeine junkies looking for a healthier fix. For other easy foods swaps for effortless weight loss — without ever having to diet again — try these fabulous fifteen.Protein Shakes Drink This Slim Fast High Protein Extra Creamy Strawberry (11.5 oz can)190 calories5g fat13 g sugars Not That! Boost Plus High Protein Strawberry (8 oz bottle) 240 calories6 g fat16 g sugars Besides having fewer calories and sugar than the smaller Boost shake, the Slim Fast drink also has more protein and five extra grams of fiber, which means it will work harder at keeping your belly full in the hours after you sip it. Yogurt Smoothie Drink This Dannon Light & Fit Strawberry Banana Smoothie 70 calories12 g sugars Not That!Stonyfield Farm Organic Wild Berry Smoothie 150 calories25 g sugars The Stonyfield smoothie is smaller but more than doubles up on the calories and sugar in the Dannon Light. Don't be fooled by the "organic" name — this yogurt smoothie is thick with added sugars, which spikes your blood sugar and tells your body to start storing fat — not the best way to start your day.
The Dannon Light shake jump starts your morning metabolism with a nice protein kick, but spares you the sickly Stonyfield sweetness. Watch out wherever, whenever for added sugars by avoiding this great list of the most sugar-packed foods in America!
Functional Beverage Drink This Dasani Plus Orange Tangerine Vitamin Enhanced Water (20-oz bottle)0 calories0 g sugars Not That!Snapple Agave Melon Antioxidant Water (20-oz bottle)140 calories33 g sugars If you were fooled by the words “agave” and “antioxidant,” don’t be embarrassed — for a product that’s supposedly water, it’s totally shocking how many calories and grams of sugar are packed into this fraudulent “health” beverage. But that doesn’t mean you should run the other way when you see an enhanced water; in fact, adding a little flavor (such as the orange tangerine in the Dasani water) can make staying hydrated easier and more pleasant — without adding calories or sugar. Bottled Beverage Drink This Sobe Lean Blackberry Currant (20-oz bottle)15 calories2 g sugars Not That!Sobe Lizard Lava (20-oz bottle)310 calories77 g sugars To glance at these two mysterious containers, you might think they contained exactly the same liquid — they’re both pink, they both come in a chunky glass bottle, they’ve both got some kind of creature on the label — but once you take a closer look at the nutrition facts, an entirely different story becomes clear. The Lizard Lava bottle contains about half a meal’s worth of calories and as much sugar as 11 popsicles.
That doesn’t exactly spell refreshment, does it? Instead try the other pink bottle, with Sobe’s Lean Blackberry Currant. With only 15 calories and 2 grams of sugar in a bottle, it just goes to show you that you can’t judge a drink by its bottle. In fact, make sure you’re always on the lookout for things like these sneaky "health" foods that aren’t! You’ll be shocked.
Energy Drink this Monster, Lo-Ball Java Monster Coffee + Energy (16-oz can)100 calories8 g sugars Not That!Rockstar Original (16-oz can)280 calories62 g sugars I’ll put it all out on the table here: I’m not a big fan of energy drinks. It’s much healthier to boost energy by exercising, eating healthy foods, and getting enough sleep. But let’s face it — sometimes you’re desperate for a pick-me-up, and it’s easy to reach for one of those shiny cans of liquid fuel.
However, if you guzzle down a can of Rockstar Original, I’m pretty sure you’re just going to end up with a jittery buzz instead of the boost you’re seeking — with 62 grams of sugars, you’re looking at a major sugar crash not too far down the road. Better to stick with a low-sugar, low-calorie option like Java Monster Coffee + Energy. Juice Imposter Drink This Fuze Slenderize Strawberry Melon (18.5-oz bottle)23 calories4.5 g sugars Not That!Arizona Kiwi Strawberry (23.5-oz can)360 calories84 g sugars Unfortunately, most of the drinks that come in flashy containers and purport themselves to be juice quite simply aren’t. That goes for both our “Drink This” and our “Not That” option here — even the healthier Fuze drink is only about 5 percent juice. That said, it’s also a low-carb, low-sugar drink that provides nutrients, antioxidants, and vitamins, so it’s not all bad — unlike Arizona’s “juice.” Bottom line: These days, if you want juice, you probably need to squeeze it yourself.
Kids' Juice Drink This Minute Maid Kids Multi-Vitamin Orange Juice120 calories24 g sugars Not That!Welch's Grape Juice170 calories40 g sugars Kids love grape juice for one reason: It's loaded with sugar. That also means it's loaded with calories. Grape just ain’t so great. On the other extreme, Minute Maid’s enhanced orange juice is mother nature's multi-vitamin, providing your kids with monster doses of calcium and vitamin D for bone growth and protection, plus a host of powerful antioxidants. To make the best choices for your kids when eating out, check out this great comprehensive listing of the Best and Worst Restaurants for Kids!
Kids’ Drink this Capri Sun Tropical Fruit Roarin’ Waters (6.8-oz pouch)35 calories9 g sugars Not That!Sunny D with Calcium (8-oz serving)140 calories31 g sugars If you believe the commercials, stocking your fridge with Sunny D will make you the coolest mom (or dad) in the neighborhood, and your kids will be smiling and thanking you, and you’ll be wearing a cashmere sweater, and your whole house will be bathed in soft, buttery sunlight. Right. Well, believe it or not, if you’re interested in giving your kids a fun drink that’s actually reasonably healthy, hand them one of those silver Capri Sun pouches — OK, so they’re not exactly a health drink, but they’re better than Sunny D — cashmere or no cashmere. For other belt-busting beverages, don’t miss these other drinkable disasters. And for other incredible tips to keep the weight off for good, take this eye-opening quiz to learn how much you can eat for just 100 calories.

What is, Phenylpropanolamine?
Here is a story, that may save your life it was passed down to me, so I can't say for sure that this true, nor can I say its not true, my basic blief is that we all have to be careful about what we put into our bodies. After all if its not's part of the basic foods groups, or the name of the product is so big, and we probably couldnt spell it off the top of our head, can it really be that safe?
....... remember KISS......... Keep It Simple, (and in this case) Safe........
Phenylpropanolamine, what is it?
I received this information from a friend whose mother recently passed away. Apparently, this was caused by a medication that is deadly. Here are the details, and I suggest you pass it on to your loved ones and others .
I would like to thank those of you who expressed condolences on the recent passing of my mother. She suffered a hemorrhagic stroke while she was driving home from my house on July 30th and passed away on August 3rd. My mother's stroke and passing was an enormous shock to my family, because she did not have any symptoms or risk factors for a stroke. Just the week before she had gone to her doctor for a check up and received a clean bill of health. She did, however, develop a cold while she was visiting me and had taken Alka Seltzer Cold Plus for 3 days.
Since her passing, we have learned that Alka Seltzer is one of the many cold medicines that contains Phenylpropanolamine (PPA), which can cause hemorrhagic stokes or cerebral bleeding, even with the first use. I am forwarding a list of other medications that currently usePPA.. These medicines are supposedly being recalled but my mother just purchased this medication less than two weeks ago. Pharmaceutical com panies have known about this danger for years, we unfortunately, did not.I urge you to review the list of medicines with PPA and avoid these medications. All drugs containing PHENYLPROPANOLAMINE are dangerous. You may want to try calling the 800 number listed on most drug boxes and inquire about a REFUND. Please read this CAREFULLY. Also, please pass this on to everyone you know.
STOP TAKING anything containing this ingredient. It has been linked to increased hemorrhagic stroke (bleeding in brain) among women ages 18-49 in the three days after starting use of the medication. Problems were not found in men, but the FDA recommended that everyone (even children) seek alternative medicine. The following medications contain Phenylpropanolamine/

Sweet Poison.....Aspartame
SWEET POISON A MUST READ
In October of 2001,
My friend started getting very sick. She had stomach spasms and she was having a hard time getting around. Walking was a major chore. It took everything she had just to get out of bed; she was in so much pain.
By March 2002, she had undergone several tissue and muscle biopsies and was on 24 various prescription medications. The doctors could not determine what was wrong with her. She was in so much pain, and so sick. She just knew she was dying. She put her house, bank accounts, life insurance, etc., in her oldest daughter's name, and made sure that her younger children were to be taken care of. She also wanted her last hooray, so she planned a trip to Florida (basically in a wheelchair) for March 22nd.
On March 19 I called her to ask how her most recent tests went, and she said they didn't find anything on the test, but they believe she had MS. I recalled an article a friend of mine-mailed to me and I asked my sister if she drank diet soda? She told me that she did. As a matter of fact, she was getting ready to crack one open that moment. I told her not to open it, and to stop drinking the diet soda!
I emailed her the article my friend, a lawyer, had sent me. My sister called me within 32 hours after our phone conversation and told me she had stopped drinking the diet soda and she could walk! The muscle spasms went away. She said she didn't feel 100% but she sure felt a lot better. She told me she was going to her doctor with this article and would call me when she got home. Well, she called me, and said her doctor was amazed! He is going to call all of his MS patients to find out if they consumed artificial sweeteners of any kind. In a nut-shell, she was being poisoned by the Aspartame in the diet soda...and literally dying a slow and miserable death.
When she got to Florida March 22, all she had to take was one pill, and that was a pill for the Aspartame poisoning! She is well on her way to a complete recovery. And she is walking! No wheelchair! This article saved her life. If it says 'SUGAR FREE' on the label; DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!
"ASPARTAME," marketed as 'NutraSweet,' 'Equal,' and 'Spoonful.' the EPA, it announced that in the United States in 2001 there is an epidemic of multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus. It was difficult to determine exactly what toxin was causing this to be rampant. Why is Aspartame so dangerous?: When the temperature of this sweetener exceeds 86 degrees, the wood alcohol in ASPARTAME converts to formaldehyde and then to formic acid, which in turn causes metabolic acidosis. Formic acid is the poison found in the sting of fire ants. The methanol toxicity mimics, among other conditions, multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus. Many people were being diagnosed in error. Although multiple sclerosis is not a death sentence, Methanol toxicity is! Systemic lupus has become almost as rampant as multiple sclerosis, especially with Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi drinkers. The victim usually does not know that the Aspartame is the culprit. He or she continues its use; irritating the lupus to such degree that it may become a life-threatening condition.
Some patients with systemic lupus become asymptotic, once taken off diet sodas. In cases of those diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, most of the symptoms disappear. In some cases where vision loss returned and hearing loss improved markedly. This also applies to cases of tinnitus and fibromyalgia. "If you are using ASPARTAME (NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc) and you suffer from fibromyalgia symptoms, spasms, shooting, pains, numbness in your legs, cramps, vertigo, dizziness, headaches, tinnitus, joint pain, unexplainable depression, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, blurred vision, or memory loss you probably have ASPARTAME poisoning!"
Are these symptoms, reversible?" Yes! Yes! Yes! STOP drinking diet sodas and be alert for Aspartame on food labels! Many products are fortified with it! This is a serious problem.
Dr. Espart remarked that so many people seem to be symptomatic for MS and during his recent visit to a hospice, a nurse stated that six of her friends, who were heavy Diet Coke addicts, had all been diagnosed with MS. This is beyond coincidence! Diet soda is NOT a diet product! It is a chemically altered, multiple SODIUM (salt) and ASPARTAME containing product that actually makes you crave carbohydrates. It is far more likely to make you GAIN weight! These products also contain formaldehyde, which stores in the fat cells, particularly in the hips and thighs. Formaldehyde is an absolute toxin and is used primarily to preserve "tissue specimens." Many products we use every day contain this chemical but we SHOULD NOT store it IN our body! Dr. H. J. Roberts stated in his lectures that once free of the "diet products" and with no significant increase in exercise; his patients lost an average of 19 pounds over a trial period. Aspartame is especially dangerous for diabetics. Some physicians, who believed that they had a patient with retinopathy, in fact, had symptoms caused by Aspartame. The Aspartame drives the blood sugar out of control. Thus diabetics may suffer acute memory loss due to the fact that aspartic acid and phenylalanine are NEUROTOXIN when taken without the other amino acids necessary for a good balance. Treating diabetes is all about BALANCE.Especially with diabetics, the Aspartame passes the blood/brain barrier and it then deteriorates the neurons of the brain; causing various levels of brain damage, seizures, depression, manic depression, panic attacks, uncontrollable anger and rage. Consumption of Aspartame causes these same symptoms in non-diabetics as well.
Documentation and observation also reveal that thousands of children diagnosed with ADD and ADHD have had complete turnarounds in their behavior when these chemicals have been removed from their diet. So called "behavior modification prescription drugs" (Ritalin and others) are no longer needed. Truth be told, they were never NEEDED in the first place! Most of these children were being"poisoned" on a daily basis with the very foods that were "better for them than sugar."It is also suspected that the Aspartame in thousands of pallets of diet Coke and diet Pepsi consumed by men and women fighting in the Gulf War, may be partially to blame for the well-known Gulf War Syndrome. Dr. Roberts warns that it can cause birth defects, i.e. mental retardation, if taken at the time of conception and during early pregnancy.
Children are especially at risk for neurological disorders and should NEVER be given artificial sweeteners. There are many different case histories to relate of children suffering grand-mal seizures and other neurological disturbances talking about plague of neurological diseases directly caused by the use of this deadly poison." Herein lies the problem: There were Congressional Hearings when Aspartame was included 100 different products and strong objection was made concerning its use. Since this initial hearing, there have been two subsequent hearings, and still nothing has been done. The drug and chemical lobbies have very deep pockets.
Sadly, MONSANTO'S patent on Aspartame has EXPIRED! There are now over 5,000 products on the market that contain this deadly chemical and there will be thousands more introduced. Everybody wants a "piece of the Aspartame pie." I assure you that MONSANTO, the creator of Aspartame, knows how deadly it is. And isn't it ironic that MONSANTO funds, among others, the American Diabetes Association, the American Dietetic Association and the Conference of the American College of Physicians? This has been recently exposed in the New York Times. These [organizations] cannot criticize any additives or convey their link to MONSANTO because they take money from the food industry and are required to endorse their products.
Senator Howard Metzenbaum wrote and presented a bill that would require label warnings on products containing Aspartame, especially regarding pregnant women, children and infants. The bill would also institute independent studies on the known dangers and the problems existing in the general population regarding seizures, changes in brain chemistry, neurological changes and behavioral symptoms.
The bill was killed. It is known that the powerful drug and chemical lobbies are responsible for this, letting loose the hounds of disease and death on an unsuspecting and uninformed public. Well, you're Informed now! YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW!

Common Weight Loss Mistakes
A lot of us are out there watching what we eat and exercising, but still not making a dent in our bellies and body weight. There are a few things we are probably not doing, or doing too much of, that would mean major improvements in our health.
Get more sleep. After a very short period of time (about 6 nights), studies show that your glucose levels can rise if you get only 4 to 7 hours of sleep each night. New parents are excluded, but everyone else should try to hit the 8 hour mark as often as you can and get to bed BEFORE midnight. Every hour of rest before 12 a.m. is twice as valuable as the hours after midnight: Our cortisol levels are lowest before midnight therefore our recovery is the highest.
Eating fewer refined and processed foods. Avoid fast and fried food and try to consume as many real foods as you can. It's also imperative to get enough fiber (helps with elimination); fruits and veggies are a great way to fill up.
Avoid sugary drinks and reach for more water. Water is great for so many things like digestion, eliminating toxins in the body, and transporting important nutrients to our cells which need energy to burn calories. Americans drink 20% of their calories, so be careful of that silent pitfall.
Get to know your kitchen. I realize it takes more work, but the simple truth is we eat out or order in too often. There is a greater opportunity to control what is in your food if you cook it yourself.
Slow down. When you do sit down to a meal, don't wolf it down. Our culture encourages eating while driving or sitting at our desks. The only time we seem to sit down and enjoy our food is at Thanksgiving. The monks chew each bite of food 100 times (which is excessive), but they also eat only until they are full. They recognize that chewing their food more makes it easier for the body to digest.
Breathe. There are so many days that I don't breathe deeply. In the morning, mid-afternoon, and at the end of the day take a 10 conscious, belly-deep breaths. Close your eyes, pull that air deep into your stomach via your nose and let all the junk out through your mouth. Whether its a stressful day, or you just want to start and end your day on the right foot, breathing is important.
Don't starve yourself. Oddly enough some of you may not be eating enough, and the lack of calories is putting your body into save mode. Our bodies are so brilliant, and if they aren't getting enough food, your metabolism will tell your body to store each and every calorie it receives or to make energy from whatever muscle tissue you have. Not good. Oh and by the way, don't skip breakfast. People who skip breakfast are over 4 times more likely to be overweight.
Do more than exercise. Even if you are working out, you can't eat and drink whatever you want. It really is a three sided puzzle: balancing exercise, food, and (oh yes) the spirit (which stress and happiness play into).
I wish you the greatest of success, and remember, being healthy is like making your bed. It really is something we have to work at everyday.

Helping your body burn Fat
Wouldn’t you just love it if your body decided to burn fat and calories on its own
...................................
It can:
1. Exercise in short, intense bursts (interval training) for effective fat burning after
exercise.
2. Increase the amount of resistance/strength/weight training you do, to build more
lean muscle. Muscle is ‘metabolically active’ and burns more calories than other body
tissue even when you’re not moving.
And of course, for best results:
3. Chill on the amount of food you are eating.
..................................
Technically:
1. Our bodies are built to survive, so when you exercise for long periods of time
(often and consistently) your body thinks it needs to hold on to fat for energy.
Doing short (12-15 minute), intense exercise sessions builds strength and burns
calories, but not fat, so it “feels safe” using fat stores for energy after exercise.
2. Resistance training (using extra weight) helps build lean muscle mass (and
strong bones), and muscle burns more calories than fat.
3. If you are obsessing over things like fat grams and not eating a nutritious diet,
your body will reserve energy (store fat) to survive.

.................................
Realistically:
1. Varying your exercise is the most effective and efficient way to stay lean and
healthy. You must do some longer exercise to build cardiovascular endurance,
burn lots of calories, and yes, even burn fat during exercise - your body will not
click in to “save” mode unless you exercise for long periods of time, regularly
and often.
2. You must do resistance training in order to build muscle and strong bones.
3. Nobody wants to exercise more - and we don’t want to train our bodies to need
more exercise to stay fit. So exercise efficiently – two short, very intense
(relative to your level of fitness) training sessions weekly, like a 15-minute fast
run/walk or fast cycling sprint intervals, and two moderately long, moderately
intense sessions (30-45 minutes) of strong walking, cycling, or yoga, with one
long day (60-90 minutes) of a moderately paced walk/hike. That’s a great
five-day/week training schedule.
4. Instead of adding more days to your workout schedule, add a weighted vest to
your training. I have said this before, but this is the most efficient way that I
know of to build muscle while burning calories.
5. Eat moderately - stop counting fat grams and calories and look at how much food
is on your plate! And eat more nutritiously by eating foods that are natural and
unprocessed.

Weight Loss Success Story
Spokane Wa. James Hicks weighs in on 'Dr. Phil'
James Hicks he's lost 250 pounds, thanks to Weight Watchers, Dr. Phil McGraw book,
"The Ultimate Weight Solution"
If you seen James Hicks on "Dr. Phil" show a couple of years ago, you would have also seen much less of him than you would've just a years ago.
But, then, that's why the Spokane man was asked to appear on the talk show in the first place.
James Hicks has shed 250 pounds in 12 months before the airing on the show, thanks to a combination, he says, of Weight Watchers and Dr. Phil McGraw's book, "The Ultimate Weight Solution."
"I just literally did it one week at a time, one piece at a time, one meal at a time," says James, a corporate trainer for WestCoast Hospitality. And he's not done yet.
James Hicks started at 570 pounds, a weight that left him on oxygen with chronic bronchitis and doctor's orders not to walk more than 50 yards. He was only 30 years old, he'd even been cleared to undergo gastric bypass surgery, a drastic, last-ditch procedure that shrinks the stomach and causes weight loss.
Just before going under the knife, though, his insurance company decided not to cover the procedure. "I was basically left with no options," he says. And then his office started a Weight Watchers program at work. The cost of the plan would be deducted right from his paycheck. It was too easy to pass up.
About the same time, his wife bought him Dr. Phil's weight-loss book. "It didn't just talk about diet and exercise," Hicks says. "It focuses on everything in your life you need to get straight."
Finally, after being overweight since he was 6, after trying diet after diet, the pieces clicked: He didn't need to change what he ate; he needed to change his life.
He made this his New Year's resolution. And, unlike most of us, he stuck with it. Since then, James has followed the Weight Watchers plan religiously. Some weeks he loses 5 pounds, others less than a pound. But he's never attended a weekly weigh-in to find out he'd regained any weight. At first, James concentrated solely on his eating. The bronchitis made it too tough to start exercising. But once he lost 10 percent of his body weight, nearly 60 pounds, he got a pedometer and began walking.

He started walking to and from his wife's office to WestCoast, about a mile each way.
Then he started coming to work an hour early so he could get in more walking. He was walking four miles a day, then seven. James had lost about 100 pounds when he completed his first Bloomsday. "We were just about the last finishers," he says. "But we made it … And I'm going to run it this next year."
James was surfing the Web when he landed on Dr. Phil's site. He decided to send the host an e-mail. "Dr. Phil's book basically changed my life," he says. "It got me thinking about diet in a way I never have before." That was Sunday night. By Monday morning, the producers had already written back, asking for before and after pictures.
Within days, he found himself in Los Angeles, sitting on stage, talking to Dr. Phil. James told him how much the book had helped him. "He started getting choked up," he says. "You could tell he was really happy for me."
Reaching his weight goal won't be the end of the success story, he says. He'd like to train for a marathon, maybe a triathlon, too. And, he hopes to become a motivational speaker. "I want to inspire people," he says. "I want people to know it's not impossible, even though it's a huge undertaking. "James Hicks' life has changed even more with the birth of their first child
"My son's never going to know a dad that can't do things or that can't move around," he says.

This story is not only inspirational, but its a personal pleasure for me to share with you as James is also a personal friend of mine. James has been buddies with my brother Ron, for years. and through my brother I have gotten to know James personally, he was supportive to me and my family when we lost out mother in Dec. 2000, and he has always made himself avail to me if all I would pick up the phone. Its true he and I are nearly as close of friends as he is with my brother, but never the less we are friends, and I am proud to say so.
He is also a inspiration for me in my own weight loss

Weight Loss and Ghrelin
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Still Struggling with your weight?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ghrelin... This is the hormone that controls hunger and fullness. Research shows that the more protein you eat, the more the ghrelin is suppressed, meaning you feel full. The level of ghrelin stays high when fat is consumed. (bad thing) Carbs lower it temporarily, but then send it soaring shortly after. (more bad things) Ghrelin is produced in your stomach. Protein makes it subside so it doesn't reach your brain and you feel full. Good thing.
------------------
The one thing that interferes with ghrelin production and makes you feel hungry all the time is quite possibly the one most important factor in our fight with obesity. High Fructose Corn Syrup. Not just fructose, but the High Fructose. The delayed decrease of the hormone ghrelin has been shown in obese subjects but not in normal weight subjects. This means that chronic consuption of fructose may actually be preconditioning the metabolism of a normal weight individual to behave like an obese individual's metabolism.
-------------------
You might say What does all this mean? If you read your labels, you will notice that high fructose corn syrup is in almost everything these days. If it is true that it affects the ghrelin and leptin hormones and prevents us from feeling full, it could be responsible for overeating. In addition to doing your best to create great eating habits and eating your veggies, you should be diligent about staying away from HFCS.
------------------
When you focus your brain on specific strategies like to change the release of the hormones, the perception of hunger changes, and the exciting part is that you love to eat veggies. And if you are eating veggies instead of twinkies, things might just work out.

Weight Loss and Herbalife
Just a few coments about Herbalife, weather you know of Herbalife personally, or maybe you just heard of the name, but is not sure what the story is here. Prehaps maybe you know somebody who has been a part of Herbalife. What ever the case is you should know that it works, the only question is will you let Herbalife work in you.
Herbalife has been around since 1980, and was started by Mark Hughs, his story and the Herbalife story was born out of a tragegy in Mark Hughs life. He lost his mother because a of prescription drug over dose. What happen was that his mother was trying to lose just 30lbs, and she was taking some prescription drugs to help her with that, then found was unable to sleep, so she got some more medication to help her sleep. well with the drugs on board and fighting against her she accidently overdosed. Mark was only 18yrs old at the time.
This tragegy would have been in vein if not for Mark Hughs turning this around in his life. He knew there had to be a way to help others lose weight with killing them. So was born Herbalife, a safe healthy natural way to lose weight. Herbalife being a soy based product has made it possible for just about anybody to use and recieve the benifit of Herbalife.
Here is basis on which Herbalife works, (3-2-1), Vitimins 3 times a day, 2 shakes a day, and 1 reg meal just cut back. The hard part for me and others is getting use to drinking a health shake for a meal and that being satisfiying. Dont get me wrong the shakes are tasty, but I am 490lbs and 1 shake doesnt fill my tank. Herbalife is also a little pricy, but then again who can really but a price on good health, I guess going to the ER with herat failure would be pricy too.
The nugget with Herbalife is the chance to make alot of money, but it is hard work, as soon as you tell your freiends and family about Herbalife, or any other MLM company you start to lose friends. Some how its ok to let your friends shop other places spend money on things that dont work, but its not ok to help your friends get products that do work. All because its not cool to sell your friends things unless they walk into your retail store someplace. Well with Herbalife you dont have a retail store you have your home, and the trunk of your car to do business.
Well if your willing to risk losing friends, just because you have a product that has a 28yr track record of success, then Herbalife might be for you. Since my involvement in Herbalife I have had some success, but I havent always let Herbalife finish the job in me, becuase no matter how good Herbalife is, it just doesnt take the place of a good pizza. Herbalife works, I just didnt work very well. The good thing Herbalife is that it is also very forgiving, even when you fail you can alway re-start again.
Going back to the money thing, I myself have met several people in the business who have made over $30,000.00 a month, my upline was making over $50,000.00 a month the last time I checked with her. The money is there, and the chance to reclaim your health is there also.
If your interested in taking a closer look at Herbalife I am a independent distributor of them send me a email at laytonstouch@yahoo.com You could also go to Herbalife web site
http://www.herbalife.com/index.jsp to look and see if there is anything you would like to try, then as I said just drop me a email and I will help you get what your looking for

Weight Loss, and working out (Covert Bailey)
Weight Loss, is hard enough with all the cutting back counting calories, but now we also have to work out, but don't over do it. After all some people go to the gym everyday and struggle to get any results at all, while others can go just a few times and see results the reason a persons fitness level. Covert Bailey talks about this in his series he has on PBS,
In short when you go to the gym, or do whatever it is you do to work out. You will eventually hit a point where your results are slow to show, even though you are working even harder than before results are still slow, the solution is to mix it up a bit, as Covert Bailey suggests if your work out is running, then switch to bicycling for a while, or cross country skiing, just do something else for a while, what this does is it gives your muscles a chance to rest-up, from doing the same old thing, though you might still be using the same muscles, but your not moving them the same old way. This gives you a chance to still get a good work out, and build the same muscle from moving a different way, and thus enabling you to get some results again.
Just for the record Covert Bailey is the author of the book "Fit or Fat", he has given PBS series of lectures about healthy living, and nutrition. When you hear him speak his charm, and character will assure you that he is a expect in the field, yet he will also you make you feel as if you could talk with him, with him talking over your head. He makes this stuff easy to understand.

Weight Loss
.jpg)
The picture kind-of says it all doesn't it? Weight loss is not the easiest thing to deal with, as for me I am over 480lbs and need to lose this weight. I have gotten engaged last year, and my wedding is going be Aug 10th, 2008. Now I know I wont lose everything I need to lose, but I hope to lose about 10lbs a month. Wish me luck..One thing I believe is that weight lose is not about doing just one thing different, but its doing several things to fix a body that is out of control. What I mean is that when I was thinking about Hypnosis, one of the things they asked me in the interview, was "How has your weight served you"? after thinking about it it has served some purpose, it made me bigger, and less of a target for those who are looking for a fight. (As a kid in school, I had many of these fights with the other kids in school. All of them just wanted to mess with the fat kid)..Now that I am a adult this doesn't come very often, after I am big enough that nobody wants to chance it with me, beside most of us have out-grown that phase of our life. However the scars of the earlier years remain, other scars I got was from being forced to eat certain foods when I didn't want too hence making me gag, and today nobody is forcing me to eat anything, but even today I wont certain foods. The sad thing is the foods I don't eat eat are the foods that are suppose to help weight loss, instead I eat Hamburgers and Hot dogs. Very hard to lose weight with that kind of in-take..After listening to the experts its all about exercising more and eating less, another source says you might not be aware of your physical appearances, which makes sense because how often do you look in the mirror and look at your whole body? I know for me when I look in the mirror, I am seeing just my head and shoulders, and when I do see my whole body in all its glory I am disgusted with what I see, and to comfort myself I tell myself I am going to get serious about weight loss, and I order a pizza. As Susan Powter once said its time to "Stop the insanity".we all need to stop lying to ourselves, start appreciating who we are to our family, loved ones, and who we are to our God..Its been said before "Our lives are a gift from God, what we become is our gift to God".Its time get real and take a multi-step approach to weight loss, do your dieting, do your exercising, and love yourself to do something to save your life, it would be your gift to your family, loved ones, and your gift back to God..Don't get discouraged when you don't lose as much as you want, or when you think you should, remember you didn't get over weight over night, so wont lose the weight overnight either..I am going to put my life of display through this media form, please send me your stories, and your encouragement, and if you have lost more than 100lbs I really want your story. Please share it with me, and the world....................................Keith

Weight Loss and Hypnosis
If weight loss was your news years resolution, and you have tried one failed diet after another, then Hypnosis might be the answer for you. You have probably heard that a lot of people who have dieted and had some success, only to gain it back again. Well I am one of these people, the problem is that persons body shape can be likened to a piece of rubber. What I mean is that a piece of rubber can be stretched out yet it always return to its previous shape, the human body is like that too.
This is what happens when a person loses weight but hasn't changed their mind set. That is to say that if your mindset says you have to weigh a certain amount, and look a certain way then your body, and mind works very hard to return to it original shape. So one of the secrets to weight loss is to change your mind set. This is where hypnosis can come into play, with Hypnosis you sit down with a therapist you talk about the why, why do you continue to eat in such a way that keeps you fat, why being as big as you are has served you. Once these issues have been addressed then you can start to make changes in your mindset, that would allow you to get too a healthy weight.
In other words you are created a new image of yourself, you give yourself permission to make a change for the better. You start to see yourself at a healthier weight, and your mind starts to except that a healthier weight serves you better, than the weight you use to be.
Weight loss is more than just counting calories, and exercising more, its also changing your mindset, that a healthier weight is the right path for you.
